![]() The police uncovered a collection of burglary tools such as a crowbar, facemask, handcuffs and rope. In 1975, Bundy was pulled over by police and searched. This obsession is said to have sparked the beginning of Ted’s insanity. However, she was completely uninterested. This honor student dropped out of school and devoted his time writing to her obsessively in attempts to get back together. While she moved on with her life, Ted fell into a deep depressive state. When she graduated from University in 1968, she decided to break the relationship for she did not think Ted was of “husband material”. ![]() This was something that she did not appreciate along with other flaws. To cause him to like him more, Ted often lied to her. While Ted saw her as the love of his life, she only saw him as a temporary lover. However, the intensity of feelings towards each other was not mutual. Ted fell madly in love with this woman and did everything he could to impress her. They bonded over their shared love for skiing and took many trips together. ![]() He met a wealthy, sophisticated woman from California, who caught his attention. It was at this point when his life began to change. He was described as a “charming, articulate and intelligent man” who was well liked ( Crime Library). He realized that he was a shy person and he had problems being the social person that he wanted to be.Īfter high school, Ted attended the University of Puget Sound and the University of Washington. ![]() He stated that he was “accused on a couple occasions of being aloof, arrogant, and snobby” and that it was a “defense mechanism to protect his somewhat introverted nature” (Michaud, Aynesworth & Bundy 36). However, he still remained somewhat quiet and focused on his extracurricular activities, such as skiing and politics. He was then looked at as, "well dressed and exceptionally well mannered” (Bell). During his high school years, his popularity began to rise and the teasing decreased. In middle school, he was often teased for his introverted behavior and targeted by bullies and pranksters. His stepfather made attempts to take him on various father-son activities, but Ted never changed his ways. This introverted behavior was caused by Ted’s emotionally detached relationship with his stepfather, who tried to create a strong bond. “Ted was terribly shy, self-doubting and uncomfortable in social situations” (Bell). He was well taken care of and brought up in a pleasant environment.Īs a child, he was very antisocial and did not have many friends. When asked to describe his home life, Ted stated that it was a “fine, solid Christian home” and that they “regularly attended church… Two Christian parents … they did not drink, they did not smoke, there was no gambling, there was no physical abuse or fighting in the home” ( ). They established a happy, middle-class family with four more children, that Ted spent most of his time babysitting. It was at this time when Ted and his mother took Johnnie’s last name, Bundy. After a year in Tacoma, Ted’s mother fell in love with Johnnie Culpepper Bundy, a military cook. When Ted was four years old, he and his mother moved to Tacoma, Washington where they lived with relatives. Due to her highly religious parents, Ted grew up believing that Eleanor was his older sister and his grandparents as his parents. He was born to Louise Cowell, who was twenty-two and unmarried. ![]() Theodore “Ted” Bundy, born Theodore Cowell, came into the world on Novemin Burlington, Vermont. However, before any further information is discussed, one must look into the early life of Ted Bundy to find out who he really was. The women gone missing resembled Ted Bundy’s ex-girlfriend, who were all last seen in his company. Around this time, many women were disappearing and later found murdered. Life in Seattle, Oregon, and Salt Lake City in the 1970s was not too pleasant. For example, a man named Ted Bundy was noted for the use of an alter ego while committing various gruesome crimes. When one aspect of a person is hindered, they may turn to the creation of an alter ego to carry out those certain actions. However, it is also used outside of fiction and in everyday life. The idea of an alter ego is most commonly seen in literature, film, television and other entertainment. An alter ego is defined as a “second self” or “another aspect of one’s self”. Throughout history and the present day, people have used alter egos to express their hidden aspects and personalities. ![]()
